Simulations supported by a simulated replacement system are employed in order to receive information on the condition and behavior of a real system when it is not accessible. A simulation can never be a depiction of reality for this reason, since a theoretical 1:1 proportion between the real system and its replacement would also include a representation of the lack of accessibility. Graphical interfaces also illustrate processes that would not be accessible without a representation. In these cases the metaphors used are generally depictions of familiar everyday objects that simulate the function thereof. The question is whether a replica can convey the nature of the spectrum of action that such a hub offers access to. |
